BEST 4X4 TOW VEHICLES FOR 2017

4X4 expert STEVE CASSANO gives his verdict on the Top Five heavy lifters.

Today’s utes are a vast improvement over past models, especially the dual-cab variants which offer a variety of enhanced standard and optional features.

Choosing a 4X4 ute for your next towing rig gives you the ability to explore those remote camping spots and witness Australian history not easily accessed by the masses, especially if matched with an off-road caravan.

Here are my top pick right now.

1) Toyota LC70 and Hilux Dual Cabs.

If you’re after a no-nonsense, tough and reliable 4X4, then I suggest you give the two big Toyotas some thought.

2) Ford Ranger

The Ranger has been selling extremely well and has one of the largest model ranges available, including the top ranking Wildtrak dual-cab.

3) Holden Colorado

The new 2017 release offers some great performance and ride improvements and has also lifted the appearance and quality over previous models, especially the Z71 model.

4) Volkswagen Amarok

Volkswagen has redefined the ute class by introducing a V6 turbo diesel to its Amarok.

5) Isuzu D-MAX

For around $50,000 you’ll get a robust 3 litre dual-cab 4×4 utility delivering 130KW and 380Nm and rated to tow up to 3500kg.
